"I think everyone except possibly your brother can tell."

Faramir says dryly.

"Also, don't forget Lothiriel has three older brothers, all of whom dote on her. They are fond of Eomer, but I suspect they will come down on her side, if it come to that. They certainly have all had a hand in her escapades til now, with the possible exception of Elphir, who always tries to be the responsible one."

He's not, but he does try.

Faramir nods. "On my part, I would agree to the match also, for it would make my cousin smile! And of course politically speaking, it is a good match too. But I am only her cousin - so I have little say in that arena."

She snorts a little at that, for of course he is right. Lothiriel is entirely artless in her display of emotions. It must be taking supreme effort on her brother's part to not be aware of her feelings. That, or something even more absurd.

Oh, she will have such a talk with him. If he did not care for the girl, that would be one thing, but if he does...then this is foolishness, and she has no patience for it. It will only take a few minutes of conversation with him to determine once and for all what his wishes are. She believes Faramir, who she knows to be a keen observer...but she would like to ask Eomer herself, to be certain.

"Oh, Bema...I had not thought of her brothers." She glances at where they are speaking with their sister--they, at least, are having better luck at making her laugh, unsurprisingly. "I must confess I am inclined to let them all do as they will, for surely my brother has earned whatever harvest he will reap from this."

She looks up at Faramir for the first time in a while, smiling. "And if it results in Lothiriel winning the day, all the better. I will be glad to call her cousin, but I would be more glad still to call her sister."

"Elphir will try and keep them sensible." Faramir says and eyes Amrothos doubtfully - the youngest of the three has always been the closest to their baby sister, and the easiest to fall into whatever she desires.

"And they are all three not likely to cause anything that is likely to cause a diplomatic incident." Probably. He hopes.

But that prompts a smile in turn.

"I think the two of you would be very good, as sisters! Should I fear for myself?"

That aspect had not occurred to her. "I do not think we need fear a diplomatic incident," she says, only a little doubtfully. "Eomer can be remarkably foolish sometimes, but he is not without sense. Nor is Aragorn, nor Imrahil. Provided there is not some outlandish public scene..."

She frowns, reconsidering. Perhaps one of them should speak to Lothiriel after all. Public scenes do not seem her style, but Eowyn is not so familiar with her brothers.

"Nay." She leans up to kiss him a little. Not too much, for Hilde's warnings of the day before are still fresh in her mind, she does not with another lecture. "I hope you need never have cause to fear me, even in jest."

"Which I think all parties invovled would be reluctant to initiate." Faramir agrees.

"Hopefully, in any case."

Her lips are warm against his, and he welcomes the kiss, drawing her close briefly before reluctantly releasing her.

"Never, my love."

Oh, such kisses...! She would do nothing else, if they were able. Eowyn does wonder if this dazed, addicted state will continue indefinitely, or if it will abate somewhat after they are married. She is not sure which outcome she would prefer.

It also occurs to Eowyn that she has not yet discovered her brother's decision about whether or not they may move their wedding forward. Another reason to seize him for a conference.

But not this night. For the rest of this night she is content to stay near Faramir, often within the circle of his arm, and speak with him and any of their friends who wish a word. They spend much of the rest of the evening talking to Legolas and Gimli, who both overflow with ideas for new outposts for their respective peoples: Legolas in Ithilien, and Gimli in the mountains near Helm's Deep. Eowyn is delighted by both ideas, on both a personal level--for she values these comrades dearly--and on a political one, for there would be much benefit to both Rohan and Gondor. They can make no promises even for Ithilien, not until they take up their duties there, but she and Faramir are both good sounding boards for ideas.

The next morning is taken with those negotiations, and Eowyn excuses herself from them to attend to other duties. There is still much to organize within the Meduseld, and she has been recruiting some of her countrymen to see if they will accompany her to Ithilien. She looks not for the most capable, but the most restless, those who most wish an escape or a new challenge. Ithilien must be peopled, and she would have it that not all those people be solely of Gondor.

As the morning wears on she remembers she promised books to Lothiriel, and seeks out Queen Morwen's library. It is more substantial than she told Faramir, in truth, with many shelves and a few hidden nooks, though it is still nothing to the library of the Citadel of Minas Tirith. Her people are not bookish, and prefer oral traditions.

Still, everything is written down lest it be forgotten, even if it is not often consulted. There are far more scrolls than books, and most of those are music or in plainchant rather than prose; but she finds the shelf towards the back where the books on the languages of the Mark and Sindarin are kept, and spends some time going through them, attempting to judge which her cousin-to-be will find easiest and most helpful.

It is a good night, and that Eowyn spends the rest of it by his side makes it even better, as far as Faramir is concerned. He is delighted to know that Legolas plans to reside in Ithilien as well, and Gimli being close by in Rohan can only be good news. Come the morning they both have to take up their duties once more, but he is pleased to see that things appear to be going well there.

When the lunch bell rings, he goes to seek Eowyn, and is directed to their library, which he is delighted to find seems full of things he has never read before. He is only diverted from being lost amongst them by the golden gleam of light at one end, and in a fit of mischief, he tries to sneak up on her.

"Good day, my lady."

All rangers are skilled at stealth, and while it is more difficult to be stealthy in a near-silent room than in a moving, breathing forest, he still gets quite close before she realizes someone has joined her.

"Béma!" She whirls just a moment before he speaks, alerted by just the faintest sound of a footfall. Even so he is almost close enough for his breath to stir her hair, and her expression is equal parts amused and reproving. "You are lucky I am unarmed, my lord."

In fact her hands are still holding the two books she was looking at, which is more what saved him from injury than her lack of a weapon. Eowyn remainds a shieldmaiden still, in some ways, and certain instincts are difficult to tamp out. Though she does not seem annoyed so much as amused.

He grins at her, shyly pleased that he has gotten as close as he had.

"You would not have damaged the books that way, I am sure!"

Well she might have, if he'd gotten close enough to poke her, maybe.

"What takes your attention so thoroughly, my lady?"

"Books are your love, not mine," she counters, relaxing. "I would not hesitate to use them as a weapon if needed! But you are safe enough for now." She holds them up for him to see. "Your cousin asked for some texts to help her learn the language of the Mark. These are more used the other way around, to aid us in learning Sindarin, but she still may find them of use."

"You say that, but I am sure you are just as aware how much they cost." He points out, amused, and looks over them interestedly.

"Ah, for Lothiriel? Aye, she will enjoy these, and as you say, e'en if they were meant to be used in one way, they will help going the other."

"And you think I should therefore judge their worth above my own safety? I think not." She teases, takes the books back and lays them flat on a shelf, where she may retrieve them again later. She gives him a sideways grin. "It occurs to me that you have your wish of several days ago. We are quite alone in here, at least for the moment. And while I had previously thought that it would not be private enough, I now think I was mistaken."

Clearly it is private enough for some things, as evidenced by how she winds her arms around his neck and kisses him. It is the first time in several days she has been able to do so unobserved, and she is most enthusiastic, lectures from Elfhelm's wife notwithstanding.

"And in this way we demonstrate why you are not the librarian." He agrees with a laugh, and wraps his arms around her waist when she comes to hold him.

"Ah, so we are..." He muses with a twinkle in his eyes, and is very happy to kiss her back, just as thoroughly.

"Are you sure no one will come in?" He does remember to ask.

"No," she admits. It is unlikely any will come to this room of their own accord, for it does not see much use, but there were a few who knew it was her destination for the next while. And at least one who knows Faramir sought her here, given that he knew where to find her.

She leans up and tangles her hands in his hair. "But we are out of sight, just here, and would have a moment or two if it were needed. Or if we were quiet anyone who entered might think the room empty..."

She kisses him again, nipping teasingly at his mouth, the long line of her body pressed against his with complete trust and ease.

"Well, that much is true..." He murmurs, unable to resist the urge to kiss her, teasing nips at her lips.

"At the least, we should hear anyone coming, probably." Unless they're sneaking, like Faramir was.

They had some time together in private yesterday, but only while on horseback, and even then with guards--chaperones, Eowyn thinks ruefully--riding with them, albeit at a distance. There were more opportunities to speak later, but none to touch, save for the chaste embraces and kisses they could get away with in company. Certainly there was no opportunity for any interlude such as this. And the day before that was nearly as constrained, with Faramir's own men whistling at them. The only true privacy they have had was the first night in the armory, and that had been all too brief, and too cold.

All the more reason to make up for lost time, to Eowyn's mind. "We will," she says, now almost whispering. "We of the Mark are not so stealthy as you, my ranger." And she kisses him again, deep and longing, her fingers gripping at his hair to keep his mouth pressed to hers. Just in case he had a foolish notion, like stopping.

It occurs to her very briefly that Aragorn too was a ranger, and his wife and Legolas as light-footed as all elves--but none of them would be likely to attempt such stealth, surely. And the thought is dismissed almost at once, in favor of more pressing matters. Literally pressing, given how she and Faramir hold each other.

Privacy has been at a premium, this is true, and Faramir is just as happy to take advantage as she is.

"That is well." He murmurs in between kisses. "For we might be scolded, if caught."

Especially considering his hands are wandering, somewhat.

"Have you spoken yet to your brother?"

"I do not care." Let anyone scold them; she will remain unrepentant. This moment is far too sweet to regret. Her hands also wander freely, tracing the lines of his face, his arms, his back--and then drifting lower still. "And no, I have not. Later. It will keep."

He kisses her for a moment, losing his train of thought for a moment.

"It can." He agrees, and tugs her a little further behind the stacks, where his own hands can shyly explore.

There is a wall behind her, between the two lines of shelves on either side of them, and it is not long before Eowyn stumbles back against it, pulling him with her. That is easier, for it gives her something to lean against as she explores him with hands and mouth.

She pulls back from his mouth just a little, to catch her breath and look at him, her eyes wide and darker than usual. Then she kisses him again, more slowly, even as she reaches for one of his hands and brings it to her chest.

He startles a little at that, pulling back to look at her in shy question.

"Eowyn?"

Not that he's removing his hand, mind.

For answer she just kisses him again, a silent press of mouth to mouth. She thinks her meaning most clear. His hands have already been wandering; let them wander a little more.

Well then!

He smiles shyly at her and his hand moves on his own volition then, as he kisses her gently, cupping her breast and shyly learning the feel of them.

Her breath catches and she shivers, for these curves are more sensitive to touch than she had realized. She has felt them herself, of course, while bathing or in passing, but this gentle deliberation is another matter entirely.

That should not surprise her, she realizes distractedly. All things are different, with Faramir.
