He lifts her up and spins in a joyful, breathless circle.

"Parents! Oh Eowyn, thank you!"

She laughs, her arms around his neck, dizzy from joy and spinning. "You are as responsible as I! I could hardly have done it alone!"

"Well, a bit! But it is mostly you doing the hard work!"

His eyes are bright with love.

"A bit? I remember there was more to it than that." She kisses him again when he puts her back on her feet. "Though I do not relish the idea of more weeks like the last, at least I now know there will be an outcome worth the effort."

"I am glad my efforts were appreciated!" He grins. "Even if this was not the consciously planned outcome!"

He cradles her close. "Will the sickness persist long?"

"Your efforts were certainly appreciated, as they always are." Her voice is lower for that, and she kisses him soundly, a reminder of the activities that ultimately caused this joyous situation.

She stands content in his arms, his cloak wrapped half around her. "Some weeks or months, unfortunately. Or perhaps longer, it varies. But at least now that we know the cause there are some steps I may take to ease things a little. Though there will be more to come." She sighs, leaning her head against his chest. "I hope Windfola will be willing to tolerate the extra weight."

"I certainly hope so."

He manages as they break apart, slightly breathless as always.

"That is a pity - do let me know if there is anything I can do to help? But Windfola, I think, will likely be delighted to know he carries his lady's babe!"

She raises an eloquent eyebrow. "You can help by promising to cease this hovering anxiety, for if I must put up with it for seven months I fear I may slay you myself and leave our babe fatherless."

No, of course she would not. But it is vexing to be so closely and constantly watched, even by her beloved lord.

He flushes, embarrassed.

"Ah. You've caught me out! Forgive men my love. I will try not to fuss!"

Her face clears, and she smiles broadly before kissing him once more, leaning against him. Truthfully she does not believe he will succeeding in keeping this promise so well as she would like or as he intends, particularly not as her time draws near, but the effort will be appreciated all the same.

After some time she draws apart a little, resting her head on his shoulder and looking out at the sunset. "It hardly seems real to me, in truth. I cannot fully encompass the idea."

He circles her waist, marveling that he still cannot feel anything.

"You have only just found out." He points out. "Tis not surprising that it has yet to sink in!"

She has not noticed any changes yet in her form, though she has barely had a chance to check. The helpful (and much too amused healer) gave her more details of what to expect, and when. Eowyn has a strongly practical mind but so far the practical details of this endeavor are escaping her, lost in the general sense of astonishment.

The circle of Faramir's arm is more comforting than his words, for all that she recognizes their truth. She merely dislikes feeling so dazed. "Ask me tomorrow and I think I will be just as amazed," she admits. "I hardly know what to think, or how I feel. Though I am glad you are joyous."

"I have long enjoyed the thought of us with little ones, as you know." He smiles and kisses the crown of her head.

"I would not rush you, but I cannot deny that this news is something greatly anticipated! But you've been so busy, I am sure you had not even begun to consider it yet!"

"We neither of us can rush anything, for the babe will come in its own time, whatever we wish." She sounds a little rueful, forseeing a long seven months of having her own wishes overturned by her body's limitations. "I hope I will have the patience for it, and that you will have patience with me in the meantime."

She touches his face. "But your delight brings me delight. And I cannot deny that I too have sometimes longed for such a child, even if I am caught by surprise now." She smiles. "I hope it will have your eyes, clear and far-seeing."

"True enough." He holds her close.

"I am sure you will - as equally sure as that the process will test your patience - and mine! - at times. But this is only another time of battle, eh? And I have never known you not to do well at everything you have put your mind to."

He laughs. "And I hope it has yours, bright and full of life!"

Only another battle. She brightens at once at the phrase, some of her usual steel returning. It helps to think of it in such terms, instead of as a strange, unknown process in which she is inexperienced.

"Always you have a gift for knowing what to say." She kisses him sweetly. "If I did not love you so much for it, I think it would be maddening!" She kissed him again. "You will be the best of fathers, that is certain."

He laughs softly, happy to return her kisses.

"I say only what I see, as you well know! And I will do my level best to live up to your expectations!"

"But you see further than most. All know that."

She looks deep into his eyes as she says it, caught as always by the well of emotion and understanding in their depths. Even on the first day they met, his gaze was arresting, piercing through her unrest and grief. "I love your eyes," she murmurs, unaware that the words have been spoken aloud. She spoke truly, before; she deeply hopes any child they have inherits them.

"Do I?" He reaches up to brush against her cheek fondly.

"I don't always think so, myself. I do like to think I try." He tips his head to kiss her softly.

"And I like yours!"

"You know full well you do, my love," she chides lightly. "You saw through me clearly even from the first moment we met, and I am daily grateful for it." Her arm wraps around his waist, pulling him closer.

He nuzzles against her.

"My dear Eowyn, some would argue you are terribly biased! But I am very pleased you think so, all the same."

He pulls her just as close himself.

She nuzzles right back. "And some would argue that you are too modest."

It is an old, fond argument between them now, and between that and affection they are kept more than busy until the sun is fully set and it is time to join the rest of the household for the evening meal. Both Eowyn and Faramir eschew greater formality unless called for, and all the house eats together in the large room set aside for the task. On some nights the two of them keep to themselves for a more private meal, but tonight Eowyn finds herself glad of the distraction of greater company. Her thoughts are still whirling.

They make no announcements; she has no doubt the news will spread quickly enough regardless, but wishes more time to get used to the idea. And more time for the babe to grow, for miscarriages are not uncommon, and she is new to this.

Usually their evenings after dinner are free, unless work intrudes or they have guests. But neither is the case at the moment, and without needing to consult they find their way to the library, a favorite place for spending the evening in talking or reading or playing chess. Eowyn sits on the couch, holding a book of Hobbit poetry (a gift from Merry, recently arrived), but not really seeing it, obviously still distracted.

He laughs fondly and lets the argument lie, content with things as they stand. He says nothing, makes no annoucement, but if he is rather pleased with himself at the moment, who can blame him. Still, in the evening he comes to sit beside her, rather than opposite, as they sometimes do when they wish to read to each other.

"Will you tell me what is on your mind?" He rescues the book and draws her into his arms.

She smiles briefly and lets herself be thus drawn, leaning against him comfortably. "All the things we cannot yet have answers to," she admits. "As if by wondering I might divine them somehow. Whether it will be a boy or a girl, what it will look like, whether it will have your temper or mine--"

She turns to flash a quick grin at him, for her temper is still more quick to flare than his. But her face settles into a more serious expression. "What sort of mother I will be. I do not have many clear memories of my own mother to use as an example, and some of those I have, I would not follow."

He echoes the smile, for he has begun to daydream of the same, but as she sobers, so also does he.

"I think you will do well." He says slowly. "And what you do not know, we will learn together. I have no memories of my mother either, as you know, and I do not wish to be a father as my father became. We will both be fumbling in the dark, I think!"
