"It will be difficult to finish a task that will take the full span of our lives." She squeezes his hands. "But I look forward to all of it." Her smile turns a bit impish. "And the sooner we start, the sooner we might retire this evening, to our first real bed in several weeks!"

With all that implies, obviously.

"Well, I assume Master Sam wasn't thinking of ruling a demense! But we can, at least, finish our Hall." He laughs at her small.

"A real bed! I must be growing soft, for the thought does appeal. A real bed, with a door that may be shut against prying eyes."

"The Hall first," she agrees. "With particular care towards the guest rooms, just in case. And to our own room if we find it lacking in anything. Though for today a real bed and a door that can be shut will be enough, so long as there are also walls to block out any noise. From within or without."

Her eyes sparkle with mischief and suggestion. They are newly wed, after all, and enthusiastic in certain regards. And it is so tedious to constantly need to have a care for your guardsmen's ears.

"I think we should make sure the bed is properly built." Faramir agrees solemnly with a twinkle. "And the walls should be of adequate thickness, and the windows likewise. If we know what things need changing in our own room, we will be better able to tend to the needs of our guests!"

"It will indeed be important to check that the bed is sound," she agrees, matching his mock-gravity. "That it will not collapse in the night, nor be too cold or too warm, or too small. We would be he worst of hosts if we offered our guests inadequate beds. Perhaps we will need to check them all."

"That might be wisest." He nods. "And, after all, even if our room is sound, we should make sure the same is true for all our guests, as well!"

Mirth overtakes her at this, the mischief of what they're discussing overwhelming her, and she laughs and reaches up to pull him down for one more last kiss (truly the last for a while this time, she promises herself).

She is still laughing when she pulls away. "I shall be giggling like a naughty child all through the tour of our new home, thinking of this," she says, not much repentant. "Sad thanks for those who have worked so hard on our behalf!"

He is only too pleased to kiss her back, and since they will have to behave shortly, cannot resist picking her up a little, as they part.

"I am sure your self control is better than that! Besides, I am sure our workers would be glad to know their labour is so well... appreciated."

"Not where you are concerned." Which is demonstrably true, as this entire walk has shown. "And somehow I do not think they will feel their work must be tested quite so thoroughly. And if you do not stop teasing me I may need to retrace our steps a little and pull you down onto the field and kiss you enough that you are satisfied and will cease being so distracting, so mind yourself."

Not an idle threat, from Eowyn.

"Is that a threat or a promise, my lady, for I must say that is hardly a deterrant!"

Faramir grins at her.

The grin makes her grin back. "A temptation," she admits. "Though you shouldn't enter into your princedom with grass in your hair and dirt covering your back."

"I suppose that is true." Faramir sighs overdramatically and laughs softly.

"We should make at least a small attempt at being presentable!"

She smiles and places a fingertip on his mouth. "For today," she tempers, running her finger along his lips and then caressing his cheek. "On another day I shall lead you on another such walk, and we will be as heedless as young colts." Mischief quirks the edge of her mouth. "After all, we shall need to explore the area thoroughly, shall we not? We would be poor stewards of this land if we didn't take care to know it well."

He kisses her finger butterfly light and smiles at her, tugging at her hand to tangle their fingers together.

"That is true! It would be wise for us to pay proper attention to the lay of the land."

She brings their twined hands to her mouth and kisses his fingers, smiling at him more gently. She has many skills in which she takes pride, but the ability to make Faramir laugh is one of the ones she now values most. Of all the duties she has undertaken and will undertake, that is the one she privately considers the most important.

One more kiss, sweet and lingering. "I love thee."

He smiles at her, his heart in his eyes.

"And I love thee."

But they've dawdled enough, and duty recalls them both. They are welcomed into their Halls with shouts of gladness, and the next few hours are a whirl of work, approving designs and checking on the soundness of the buildings and fields. By days end they both have the warm feeling of a job well done, and retire to their private rooms - which are, indeed, finished - with a tired satisfaction.

"Things go better then I feared." He smiles at her as they settle into their chairs over dinner.

"And yet you chided me for fearing we would not yet have a roof above our heads!" She sets to her dinner with good will, for it has been a long day. And it is most pleasant to have a meal that was not cooked above an open campfire, for the first time in some weeks. "Which particular fears have been relieved?"

"I feared it too!" He laughs at her. "But less than you, as I knew the builders. But I was most concerned about the state of the orchards and the fields, considering how long they've lain untended. But fortunately they seem to be coming along well, although I doubt we'll see a proper harvest for some years yet. What are your thoughts on today?"

"The same as I said this morning," she says. "That this is a beautiful but much neglected land, and we will have much to do to reclaim it. But an excellent beginning has been made here. Our house is taking shape, and I can see places where we might extend things, or improve them. We will need to gain most of our supplies through trade for some time, but I cannot forsee any difficulty there."

Her smile turns briefly amused. They are well connected indeed, both of them, not just to Gondor and Rohan but to the woodland realm and the mountain children. They have a wealth of allies and artisans at their disposal, and no small amount of coin to draw upon. An abundance of possibilities.

"But I think these first few years will be a little difficult, when it comes to sustaining those here or making space for more. That is a problem, particularly if we need to watch for roving bands of orcs in the forests." She does frown at that, for there have been sightings of such, and a few skirmishes, though few this far west. The Enemy is defeated and the land knows peace such as it has not seen for centuries, but there is still work to do for fighters. She is no longer one of them, nor wishes to be, but she can still think as one. "I think your Rangers will not yet be able to put away their bows for some time yet."

He nods, agreeing with her assessment.

"We see the same, then - we are fortunate to have good allies, in that regard! We may have to tighten our belts a little for the first few years, but I think that little hardship, comparatively."

He nods, a little grim.

"Too many far too close, for my liking. But I suppose we are very close to the borders of the Black Lands, and it will be some time before we can clear out all their nests. Will you ride with us, or will you hold your battles elsewhere, milady?"

Eowyn laughs and lifts her goblet to him in a toast. "If tightening our belts includes meals such as this, I do not think it will be much of a hardship at all." It is nothing spectacular as meals go, not something to match a Rohirric feast or to grace the King's table in Gondor, but it is entirely satisfactory to Eowyn's wishes and needs.

She sobers however, and shakes her head to his question. "No. I thank you for asking me, but no." She loves him all the more for the invitation, so casually offered, with the assumption that if she wished to ride to battle she would be not only able but entirely right and welcome to do so. Few have graced her with that respect. "But what I said before still holds true. I fear I will not pick up a sword again. Not unless the need is very great."

"Perhaps it might even be good for us!" He pokes at his belly thoughtfully. "I would not wish to allow myself to grow flabby!"

He nods and smiles, reaching across to squeeze her hands understandingly. "We will have to make sure your healing halls are fully stocked, before there is any riding out in serious campaigns, I think. Our first priority, sadly!"

She laughs a little as he pokes his stomach, and reaches over to do the same, tickling his ribs a little as she is at it. "I promise, if you begin to grow flabby I will chase you through the fields until you are lean again."

His understanding makes her smile in return, and she bends to kiss his fingers. "You will do one sort of battle and I another, and we shall make certain both of us are well prepared before we engage our enemies. But it need not be our first priority." Her eyes twinkle at him. "That was to test the soundness of our rooms, remember?"

He bats at her fingers with a laugh.

"That hardly sounds a threat!" He teases back and nods.

"Ah, you remind me of the importance of... more imediate issues." He grins at her.

"Have you eaten enough? I have heard it said that exercise after a meal should not be strenuous, but perhaps we could begin with an exploratory walk..."
