"That would indeed be a tragedy!" He smiles back and sobers.

"I would hope so - perhaps we should assign one wing of the house to friends and family? I hope for children, one day too - more than one, if you are amenable to the idea! Perhaps a playroom overlooking a private garden?"

They have not discussed children, but going by the smile and slight flush on her face (not embarassed, not Eowyn, surely) the idea is not unappealing. "Perhaps." Her blush deepens, and she shakes her head (not embarassed at all). "I had never planned to have children before, wishing to remain a shieldmaiden instead. But...I should like to have yours. I should like to meet such children."

"As would I." Her flush is adorable, and he kisses her cheek.

"I am sure they will be strong and free-spirited, like their mother."

"Or else wise and kind, like their father." Her eyes shine as she looks up at him. "I will teach them to ride, and you will teach them to use a bow. And perhaps, if they are lucky and well-behaved, they might join us for breakfast in the sun room some mornings."

"Only if they are very, very well-behaved." Faramir agrees, and can't help kissing her again.

"After all, the mornings will be our special time! And it is right that they learn that good behaviour is rewarded."

She accepts this kiss as happily as all the others, leaning against him, her flush gradually lessening. "But...I think it is a little premature to build a playroom. Perhaps we might focus on other things first. Guest rooms at least, for my brother has promised to visit as soon as he is able, and your uncle Imrahil with his family."

She has not had much chance yet to become acquainted with Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth, and looks forward to the opportunity. She knows well that it was he who realized she still lived, after the Battle of the Pelennor, when all others thought her dead. She knows also that Eomer holds him in highest esteem, which is no small thing.

And she knows one other thing, which makes her chuckle a little. "I hope they might all come at once. I think my brother was much taken with your cousin Lothiriel."

"Good point." He agrees.

"We could set aside the space for one, I think, to work on later. But I am sure Aragorn and Arwen will want to visit soon, and Legolas is likely to drop in and out, and with him Gimli. Rooms in a circle, perhaps, with a private garden in the center?"

His eyes light with that knowledge.

"With little Lottie? Oh dear, do I need to warn uncle? Or, considering Lothiriel's personality, should I be warning your brother?"

She likes the idea of rooms in a circle, but this new topic is much more enthralling and her eyes glint with a hint of mischief. "I do not think your cousin is so very little anymore. From what little I saw, my brother had met his match in stubbornness." Which coming from Eowyn says a good deal, though she also sounds as though she approves of the idea. "What is she like otherwise?"

"Stubborn is a good description"

He laughs. "She's wilful, is Lothiriel, but kind, too. She's a little spoilt, probably, being the baby, but it hasn't made her rude or cruel. But she knows her mind and isn't at all afeared to speak it - sometimes, a little too swiftly!"

"That has promise." Eowyn likes what she hears, clearly. "We of Rohan value courage and plain speaking, and my brother is too used to deference being given his rank. If she has any wit to go with her self-possession and beauty I suspect he will be enchanted before he knows it."

"I think he will not know what hit him." Faramir predicts with a laugh.

"It would not surprise me if they already met, as she is prone to sneaking out."

"Oh ho!" Eowyn's eyes glint. The more she hears of this girl, the better she likes the idea. "Perhaps we should make a point of inviting both our families at once, and see how things fall. They may find it easier to approach each other on neutral ground, as we did."

Clearly, some of the stories of newly-wed couples being ruthlessly determined to matchmake those around them have some truth, in this instance. Eowyn loves her brother above all others save Faramir; she would be pleased to see him as happily wed as she is.

"Ah, this is true - and we have a good reason to do so, after all, for who would not wish to show off their new home?"

He grins back at her.

"We could even invite the Hobbits, make a production of it. It would be easy to get them alone in such a crowd. And you cannot tell me the Hobbits would not find the idea charming!"

"I fear perhaps too much so! But I should like to see them again, especially my valiant friend Merry. Perhaps Legolas and Gimli as well..." Her smile turns a little sheepish. "But I think it may take so much time to build enough rooms to house everyone that Eomer and Lothiriel will have either wed, eloped, or found other partners before we are ready."

"Ah, this is true." He kisses the smile, can't quite help himself.

"I suppose that we don't have to move too fast, either. Might make them suspicious"

"But I am impatient, as you know, and dislike waiting. Unless there is very good reason."

Such as kissing him once more. But duty is smiting her heart a little, and she sighs, a bit wistful. "We should go and make a beginning. But...I hate for this part to end. I have liked having all your attention to myself, for a time."

"Well, we want them to be happy - is that not a good reason?"

He teases but nods.

"Having said that, there is no reason why we cannot begin the construction now - if they will be close to our family rooms, then so much the better."

He kisses her again.

"As do I. Alas that we were born to rulership, milady! Just think, if I had been but a common soldier, and you a simple Rider, we could have a little cottage of our own, far from such burdens..."

"I do not think either of us could have been content with such," Eowyn says thoughtfully, after a moment. She has always been a daughter of kings; imagining a simpler life is difficult. "I have perhaps too much pride. And you, too great a sense of responsibility. I cannot imagine us as other than we are, for we would be so different we would be other people entirely. And we would still have other burdens, though they would be of less influence. But perhaps we might take a day or two, once a year, to visit such a cottage and pretend, if it would amuse you."

"Probably not." He admits with a wry smile. "It is an amusing dream, perhaps, but I cannot see you as anything other than a Shieldmaiden of Rohan, wild and free. Perhaps it might be fun, when we are less busy."

He's already making plans to see if he can do this. Their anniversary, maybe....

She squeezes his hand again. "But I am no longer a shieldmaiden," she reminds him. "And as you make your plans, for I know that look on your face, do not forget that you have also promised to teach me to sail."

"You will always be my shieldmaiden." He grins at her boyishly.

"I have not forgotten! I was thinking we could go to Dol Amroth once the house is finished. A holiday, as a reward for our hard work?"

There is no help for it, she has to kiss him again for that. "So I am," she murmurs against his mouth, smiling. "And I would very much like to see Dol Amroth, and spend more time with your uncle Imrahil's family, and get to know your cousin. I have never seen the sea. That would be a fine reward indeed for our efforts."

"We shall have to remedy that then." He kisses her back, peppering fond kisses over her cheeks.

"You'll like Lothiriel, she's younger than you but just as free spirited. A little spoilt, being the baby, but a good heart. Amrothos wants to meet you too, he keeps writing to me about all the things your brother told him while they were on campaign and demanding to know if they are true!"

She sighs happily as she accepts the kisses, wrapping her arms around him. Their progress as they walk towards Eryn Arnen is slow indeed, given how they keep stopping to be affectionate. Hopefully their people will be patient with their new lord and lady.

"I hope I will not need to tell the story myself, in order for him to believe it." Eowyn has made some peace with her deeds, but she still has no wish to speak of the Witch King of Angmar, though she can listen to others tell the tale calmly enough. Already there are songs written. She is healed enough to find it somewhat amusing, if not as glorious as she once believed it would be. Her sleep is unshadowed now, with Faramir lying beside her, and when nightmares do wake her in the night he is always there to soothe her. As she does for him, for he has his own dark dreams. She is more than content with that.

They are but newly wed, after all, and Faramir feels that if his people cannot have some patience with their besotted lord, then they should probably not agreed to have come.

"I do not think even Amrothos would be so rude as to ask that of you - I think he just wants to meet you! Mind, I do not know if Eomer told him tales of you only as Shieldmaiden, or if he included tales of your childhood!"
