Eowyn has not come directly to their bedchamber, instead stopping by the kitchens to request a mug of mint tea to take with her, so she meets her lord at the door. She smiles when she sees him, though it is tempered by a fond exasperation.

"Don't concern yourself so," she chides. "I am but a little unwell. No doubt due to not resting well last night, which I will amend."

He relaxes sheepishly at her chiding.

"Forgive me for the nagging! I only worry. But you are the healer, not I! So I will trust to your judgement. Are you tired now? We could adjourn to bed early."

"I am tired," she admits ruefully, "and will find it little hardship to take an early night for once. But if you are yet awake you need not join me yet, if you do not wish it. I know how tedious it is to lie in a bed and yet be unable to sleep!"

He kisses her gently.

"Then go to bed, my love, and I will finish off the paperwork before I come to bed. I will not be long!"

She accepts both kiss and promise gladly. Many noble couples keep their own chambers, but they have never yet done so, and she has no wish for it. Even if it means he will wake her when he joins her later on, it is worth it.

As it turns out she is already sleeping lightly when he does eventually arrive, and does little more than sigh peacefully as he slips into the bed and kisses her hair before fitting himself alongside her.

Her sleep is dreamless, but the next morning she wakes early again (though not so violently as the previous morn), still unsettled. Again she shrugs it off, eats lightly, goes about her work despite it. The feeling comes and goes but does not pass.

Things continue in this manner for several days, and Eowyn grows more and more irritated by it. She is not so fond of mint tea as to enjoy drinking it by the bucket, as she now seems required to do! She complains as much to one of the other healers in the Hall, who gives her a shrewd look and asks a few pointed questions that leave Eowyn openmouthed for a moment, gaping with astonishment and realization.

She saddles Windfola and takes him for a short ride on the plain outside Emyn Arnen, taking no one with her (except for the guard, who of course follow at a discreet distance). She always does her best thinking when on horseback, but she cannot pull her scattered thoughts together even with Windfola's help.

Finally, near sunset, she goes in search of Faramir. They often meet to watch the sun set together in private before joining the rest of the household for the evening meal. He finds her pacing and restless, as she always is when something is weighing on her mind.

Farammir has been hovering, although he tries not to. She is clearly not doing well, but he trusts that she knows the best way to manage. It just... makes him twitch.

Seeing her pace makes him just as jittery, and he comes hurrying over, to catch her hands in his.

"Eowyn? Beloved, what is wrong?"

Things have been a little more strained than usual between them for the past day or so, for Éowyn is quickly annoyed when she is being hovered over, even though she knows his worry is but a reflection of Faramir's deep love for her. She has attempted to be patient with it but that patience has been much tested.

Despite this when he appears and catches her hands, she is quick to embrace him, leaning her head on his chest and closing her eyes. His heartbeat is quick and strong against her ear.

It takes a few moments for her to find any words, and her mouth is dry. She swallows a few times, then pulls a little away, looking up at him. "My lord, there is some work that needs to be done on the house." Another swallow, another deep breath. Her hands hold hard on to his. "For we will have need of a nursery."

He pulls her into his arms and buries his face in her hair, as always marveling at how easily they fit together.

He blinks at her. "Another project? Well with most of the fields and orchards now tended to, I don't see that it will be a ... wait. Did you say... nursery?"

His mouth opens in a "O" of surprise, "A nursery, that is, for a baby...? Are you...? Is that....?"

That was also the goal. ;)

She has never before seen him stutter, or be lost for words. Not even when he was courting her. Later, when she remembers this moment, it will be a source of great amusement to her. Right now she is still too dazed by the enormity of the event to comprehend it, and well understands his reaction. "In seven months or so, as best I can estimate." She lets out a small breath that could almost be a laugh. "We have been so busy, I had not noticed--and then I did not think--"

The sentences trail off into nothing. Her hands still hold his tight, and they tremble a little.

"Seven..." He mumbles, dazed. "But... we need to design the room... and... a cot... baby clothes! We'll need baby clothes...."

His hands are also shaky but he laughs, sudden and bright, and kisses her.

"Eowyn, we're going to be parents!"

Hey, it's never happened before. Something had to manage it.

A look of incredulity crosses her face as he babbles about baby clothes, and then she cannot hold back her laughter. Mirth bubbles into their kiss, and after it, and her face is radiant as she watches joy bloom in his eyes. Her heart is too full for more speech, so she kisses him again instead.

*babies* Eowyn. *babies*

He lifts her up and spins in a joyful, breathless circle.

"Parents! Oh Eowyn, thank you!"

I don't think she yet really understands the appeal of babies!

She laughs, her arms around his neck, dizzy from joy and spinning. "You are as responsible as I! I could hardly have done it alone!"

That's fine, he'll do the excitement for both of them

"Well, a bit! But it is mostly you doing the hard work!"

His eyes are bright with love.

She'll get there, she just needs to get used to the idea.

"A bit? I remember there was more to it than that." She kisses him again when he puts her back on her feet. "Though I do not relish the idea of more weeks like the last, at least I now know there will be an outcome worth the effort."

He's sure she'll be a wonderful mama

"I am glad my efforts were appreciated!" He grins. "Even if this was not the consciously planned outcome!"

He cradles her close. "Will the sickness persist long?"

She has doubts, but we'll get to those. ;)

"Your efforts were certainly appreciated, as they always are." Her voice is lower for that, and she kisses him soundly, a reminder of the activities that ultimately caused this joyous situation.

She stands content in his arms, his cloak wrapped half around her. "Some weeks or months, unfortunately. Or perhaps longer, it varies. But at least now that we know the cause there are some steps I may take to ease things a little. Though there will be more to come." She sighs, leaning her head against his chest. "I hope Windfola will be willing to tolerate the extra weight."

Faramir will do his best to reassure her!

"I certainly hope so."

He manages as they break apart, slightly breathless as always.

"That is a pity - do let me know if there is anything I can do to help? But Windfola, I think, will likely be delighted to know he carries his lady's babe!"

He always does!

She raises an eloquent eyebrow. "You can help by promising to cease this hovering anxiety, for if I must put up with it for seven months I fear I may slay you myself and leave our babe fatherless."

No, of course she would not. But it is vexing to be so closely and constantly watched, even by her beloved lord.

He flushes, embarrassed.

"Ah. You've caught me out! Forgive men my love. I will try not to fuss!"

Is that him or you blushing?

Her face clears, and she smiles broadly before kissing him once more, leaning against him. Truthfully she does not believe he will succeeding in keeping this promise so well as she would like or as he intends, particularly not as her time draws near, but the effort will be appreciated all the same.

After some time she draws apart a little, resting her head on his shoulder and looking out at the sunset. "It hardly seems real to me, in truth. I cannot fully encompass the idea."

He circles her waist, marveling that he still cannot feel anything.

"You have only just found out." He points out. "Tis not surprising that it has yet to sink in!"

Silly Faramir. Your wife adores you, get used to it.

She has not noticed any changes yet in her form, though she has barely had a chance to check. The helpful (and much too amused healer) gave her more details of what to expect, and when. Eowyn has a strongly practical mind but so far the practical details of this endeavor are escaping her, lost in the general sense of astonishment.

The circle of Faramir's arm is more comforting than his words, for all that she recognizes their truth. She merely dislikes feeling so dazed. "Ask me tomorrow and I think I will be just as amazed," she admits. "I hardly know what to think, or how I feel. Though I am glad you are joyous."

"I have long enjoyed the thought of us with little ones, as you know." He smiles and kisses the crown of her head.

"I would not rush you, but I cannot deny that this news is something greatly anticipated! But you've been so busy, I am sure you had not even begun to consider it yet!"

"We neither of us can rush anything, for the babe will come in its own time, whatever we wish." She sounds a little rueful, forseeing a long seven months of having her own wishes overturned by her body's limitations. "I hope I will have the patience for it, and that you will have patience with me in the meantime."

She touches his face. "But your delight brings me delight. And I cannot deny that I too have sometimes longed for such a child, even if I am caught by surprise now." She smiles. "I hope it will have your eyes, clear and far-seeing."
