Well, simpler relative to Hamlet, but a touch more complex relative to that particular sentiment. This would be more along the lines of… how shall I put this.

These two only seem to encounter one another in the record shop, or the coffee shop, or outside the pub. And it’s quite clear that there’s a mutual attraction, and that there has been since the first time they noticed one another. Only, I’ve been advised that “my heart has not been fully my own since the first time I had the chance to speak more than a few words with you” is, in this day and age, not the best way to express such an attraction.

Ehhhh that might work honestly, depending on the target. Bit formal maybe but some humans like that. You don't think it sounds like what one of them would write or...?

Still! Several hundred paintings is nothing to sneeze at! I’ll have to see if I can track one down. I’d love to have a Corotley original.

Formality aside, it’s possible the sentiment of having fallen in love with someone after a fairly limited amount of contact may be alarming. Particularly if they now have something like a friendship. But I’ve heard fairly mixed opinions on this, so it seems to be a bit of a gamble anyway.

You've lost me. Have they had a limited amount of contact or a friendship? Those sound like two different things.

....also it'd inevitably a limited amount of contact unless they're actually in contact all the time...

As for the paintings, well. You could just ask.

The point is, “I think I’ve loved you since shortly after I first spoke to you” tends to come across as frightening rather than romantic, these days. So possibly I might need to scrap talking about how immediate the connection was.

It does, however, appear to be quite a strong connection. So perhaps I ought to focus on that instead. Humans seem to enjoy being compared to the moon or the stars; “there is a gravity that pulls me ever closer to your orbit” has a marvelous ring to it, I think.

You’ve still got some, then? Or am I going to be guessing every time I get a catalogue from Sotheby’s? Unless of course you’ve got a secret painting garret somewhere in the city I don’t know about and have been slinking off to for the past two centuries.

Some people still find that romantic, don't they? The whole falling in love at first site thing. Scads of films about that. And y'know, the moment when someone says or does something that changes your view of them forever, so maybe it isn't love right off the bat but it's something...gotta be some truth in it, is what I'm saying.

Careful with the extensive metaphors though, too many of them and they won't know what's being talked about at all.

Course I've still got some. Half the fun of messing with the art world is keeping a few pieces in reserve to dole out at unspecified intervals and be hailed as 'lost masterpieces' so you can watch everyone lose their minds. Hilarious.

Fair point. As the complete works of Shakespeare can attest, the line between romantic and confusing can be quite delicate.

Out of curiosity, if I were to ask for a recommendation of a handful of the best of these “scads of films”, what would you suggest? I know you get to the cinema more often than I do as a general rule, so my knowledge in that area is far more scattershot.
