"I would like that," Haleth muses. "To speak to you even when you were not before me, and to feel you even when you are not near. Will it last also beyond our lifetimes, does anyone know?" She leans up on one arm, looking down on him, her hand still resting on his chest. "Are there other pairings such as ours, of Eldar and Edain? I have heard stories of such but know nothing as to their truth."

"I don't know. I don't think this has ever been done before." He reaches up to tangle a hand in her hair.

"Well, Finrod's brother has his Andreth, but by all accounts he is one to pine and not to wed."

It's okay, she'll pet him forever.

"Ah. So the stories are only that." It neither a comfortable nor uncomfortable realization; it merely is. And regardless, she has chosen her course. Even if they were not now thus bound as they are, soul to soul, her choice would be irrevocable.

Haleth smiles at him, leaning in to the touch on her head. "I am glad you are more active than Finrod's brother, and not content with an eternity of being wistful."

"I suppose we might set a precedent."

That gains a snort. "The Arafinweans may like to debate philosophy rather than act, but I am more practical."

Her gaze softens a little. "You are." Haleth leans in to kiss his mouth, lingering. "As I am. Whether we are first or last or only, in truth I care very little. We have chosen; that is enough. Let what comes of it come, I will not change my mind."

He smiles at her, gentling.

"That is true. And this is what I have always loved about you." He murmurs. "To finally find someone with my practical bent is a blessing!"

For that compliment she kisses him again, slow and thorough. She can still feel him pulsing within her, a warm rhythm in her heart, separate from but connected to her own heartbeat. "Caranthir," she murmurs, placing a hand on his face as she tastes his lips. "Husband. I love you, and I too count myself blessed."

"Haleth." He murmurs back, tiredly content and happier than he can ever remember being.
